THE UNIVERSITY

At a glance.

Tongji University began as the German Medical School in Shanghai in 1907. Its present School of Medicine was re-established in 2000 and is based at Huxi Campus in Putuo District. The six-year English-taught MBBS combines basic and clinical sciences, Chinese and clinical practice. The first year is probationary, with progression dependent on academic performance.

  • Six-year English MBBS

Basic sciences, diagnostic and clinical subjects are combined with general Chinese and professional Chinese.

  • Clinical practice

The curriculum includes early clinical practice and clinical placements. The annual teaching plan determines the exact arrangement; affiliated hospitals include general and specialist clinical settings.

  • Progression

The first year is probationary. Insufficient credits or academic performance may prevent progression to year two. HSK Level 4 is optional supporting evidence for priority in MBBS admission.

  • Other degrees

Architecture and Civil Engineering each last four years and have separate entry and course requirements.
